SPT-3G Cutout Service Beta is Online

The cutout service is ready for beta testing! We have been working hard for weeks to build a state-of-the-art system that scientists can use to fetch the SPT-3G data they need quickly. This was only possible on such a short time scale because we built upon the DESaccess system designed for similar purposes for the Dark Energy Survey, as well as an evolved job management engine designed for the Vera Rubin Observatory following the Universal Worker Service pattern spec.

Sporting both a user-friendly web app and a robust programmatic API, the Cutout Service allows users to submit asynchronous jobs to generate sets of data files based on a list of RA/DEC coordinates and areal dimensions.

The status of jobs can be monitored on the status page. Email notifications of job completion can optionally be enabled per job.

Downloading output files is trivial. The files are available at a public URL based on the random job ID that is assigned upon creation. You can use a utility as simple as wget or try a more robust yet still easy-to-use solution like our example Python script here.
